Récit quasi-biblique, "La tour de verre" est encore une preuve de l’originalité des thèmes de Robert Silverberg qui semble avoir réussi son pari de mélanger la SF avec des thèmes très introspectifs sur la nature humaine et son destin.

Y’a ces quatre étudiants. Un juif intellectuel, un nanti cynique, un austère fuyant ses origines paysannes, un homo poête. Ils trouvent un livre qui parle d’un monastère spécial, dans lequel on peut obtenir la vie éternelle. Ils ont chacun leur raison d’y aller. Mais la règle est stricte : pour que deux vivent, il faut que l’un d’entre eux se sacrifie de lui même, et qu’un autre soit tué par les deux qui restent. Ils le savent, mais ils n’y croient pas. D’ailleurs, ils essaient de ne pas y croire.

"Ciel Brûlant de Minuit". Le titre, d’inspiration poétique, se révèle très efficace et percutant. D’emblée le lecteur se retrouve confronté à un avenir proche et tout à fait plausible qui préfigure peut-être ce qui nous attend dans quelques décennies. Vous avez deviné ?
