En 1994, Vidiadhar Surajprasad NAIPAUL, qui recevra le Prix Nobel de Littérature sept ans plus tard, entreprend un nouveau voyage dans quatre pays musulmans non arabes : l’Indonésie, l’Iran, le Pakistan bien sûr et la Malaisie. Au bout de son périple, il rassemble ses carnets et rédige "Jusqu’au Bout de la Foi" comme le complémentaire d’un essai écrit par lui en 1980 : "Crépuscule sur l’Islam".
