Jill Murphy s’est mise à écrire des histoires dès l’âge de six ans. Son expérience dans une école religieuse lui inspirera l’histoire d’Amandine Malabul et au grand étonnement de l’apprentie-écrivaine, un éditeur fut immédiatement séduit par l’histoire de la gentille mais maladroite Amandine. Presque par hasard, Jill Murphy est devenue l’illustratrice de ses histoires, en noir et blanc bien sûr, la couleur des sorcières.
Les albums d’Amandine Malabul sont désormais célèbres dans le monde entier et ont été réédités tout récemment. En anglais, Amandine Malabul s’intitule "The Worst Witch", c’est à dire "la pire sorcière". Peut être "pire" en sorcellerie, mais la meilleure pour la gentillesse et la bonne volonté.
Elle est tellement célèbre outre-Manche, qu’elle a sa propre série télé.
Je n’accuse pas J.K. Rowling de plagiat, mais il y a de l’Amandine dans les aventures d’Harry Potter, vous pouvez m’en croire.
