Les familles Carolla et Luciano sont en lutte pour le pouvoir depuis longtemps ; régulièrement des morts tombent de part et d’autre, mais cette fois il s’agit du fils préféré de Don Roberto, Michael Luciano, 20 ans et héritier de l’empire. Il ne fait aucun doute que c’est Paul Carolla qui est le meurtrier et Don Roberto a accepté de témoigner contre l’assassin de son fils.

Le lieutenant de police Lorraine Page, de la LAPD, mariée à un brillant avocat, mère de 2 adorables fillettes, et alcoolique (surtout alcoolique !) a tué un gamin de 16 ans au cours d’une descente de police, un gosse innocent tenant un walkman en main et non l’arme que son cerveau embrumé par l’alcool lui a fait imaginé.
