Il est interessant de faire un paralléle entre le nationalisme montant en Ukraine et ce que décrit Boulgakov sur la violence et la xénophobie de ce même nationalisme durant la guerre civiles, avant que l’armée rouge ne prenne le dessus.

"Le Maître et Marguerite", que Mikhaïl BOULGAKOV commença à rédiger en 1928, sous le titre de "Le Sabot de l’Ingénieur", ne devait être publié pour la première fois qu’en 1966. Pourtant, cette oeuvre, achevée le 13 février 1940, un peu plus de trois semaines avant le décès de son auteur, est assurément l’un des "romans-phares" de la littérature russe du XXème siècle et c’est elle qui contient, entre autres phrases inoubliables, le fameux "Les manuscrits ne brûlent pas !" que l’on peut considérer comme un symbole de la victoire de la liberté de penser face à l’acharnement totalitaire.
